GUILD PURPOSE

Norrath is a land wealthy in opportunity.

To flourish on this land the common adventurer takes the direct approach of slaying beasts for loot, but there are other less apparent opportunities in Norrath. Items that cant be found on common beasts, items that are harnessed by rare and elusive creatures and quests that also present the Norrath citizen with unique and challenging opportunities. The Seventh Circle encompasses all opportunities within Norrath, the straight forward and the oblique.

We will know all - Knowledge is Power.

Knowledge will be our coin.

It will be gathered, stockpiled and guarded. At times it will be spent in exchange for more knowledge, much as one purchases something we think will be appreciated at a later date.

Once our stores are full of the riches of Norrath's secrets, the Seventh Circle will be known throughout the land as "Those who know". Other guilds will come to us for information, which we will trade much as one trades platinum pieces. Relationships will be forged with guilds whose goals compliment our own.

The Seventh Circle will become a vital component in the advancement of the people of Norrath in general. There is no question that as we all advance we will face foes which single guilds cannot engage, but with our reputation, our contacts, and our knowledge we will help Norrath equip an army. Nothing shall stand before us and not know the taste of our steel. The Seventh Circle will lead us all to victory. All races and classes will be accepted into the guild, there is knowledge to be gained in all parts of Norrath and to exclude certain individuals due to racial stock would defeat our purpose. The pursuit of knowledge knows NO racial boundaries, it is pure.

GUILD MEMBERSHIP

The initial guild membership will be composed of 10-20 people. Guildleader is Hanse. Officers are Asternak, Beran, Fauchuer, Fzoule, Scarcius and Sillaina.

Guild membership derives its benefit from creating a pool of players that get to know each other. The guildchat property of EQ is one of our greatest pluses. To fully take advantage of the guild we need to keep our number of members within reason. Too many and we might as well go back to doing ooc's for party members. Guild membership has to be controlled. At the onset we will need to recruit another enough people, for a total of 30 this should be enough to maintain 2 groups of each tier with some extras. Given time we will get to know each other and consideration can be given to expanding the guild's ranks.

Guild Voting

Any time a vote is required the following steps must take place:

1) A time and date must be set which is reasonable to the majority of members

2) 24-hour notice must be given to each guild member - should a guild member not be on-line notice will be sent via e-mail

3) We need the cooperation of all guildmembers to actively participate, via signing up for our site and establishing offline contact information.

Voting In New Members

Subsequent membership will have to be voted on. Hopefuls will enter a trial period of no less than 10 days of gameplay with at least 3 guild members. After the tenth date the hopeful will be voted on. Voting is as follows: If more than one person votes against, then that person is not accepted. During the trial period the hopeful will be admitted as part of the guild - when it comes time to vote the person will be removed from the guild, the vote will be placed in guildchat and if the person is admitted then guild membership

will be extended. Guild membership once granted cannot be taken away.

Guild Charter Amendments

The guild charter is meant to be a living document, it should be able to change as needed to reflect our changing environment. As such the following process should be followed. A motion to alter the guild charter must be submitted by one of the guild leaders, the guild leaders subject this motion to a vote - should the vote not be unanimous the vote will be handed to the guild members. Ballots will be in the form of tells to the three leaders (one for each)

The Guild Member from Hell

Above it was stated that guild membership cannot be taken away once it has been granted. This having been said it should be understood that mistakes can be made and people can change. It could very well be that an individual has been accepted into our fold that either:

  1. fooled us all
  2. changed throughout the course of play

To qualify for this exception this individual must have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt an utter

disrespect for the guild and its members. Should this be the case a vote can be called for - to

oust a guild member requires a unanimous vote by the three leaders followed by a 90%

majority vote by ALL the members.

INTER-GUILD MEMBER RELATIONS

Guild Members should strive to help the guild. This does not mean that you should sacrifice all for the guild. If you have needs that's ok, just make sure you keep things in perspective, when we reach 30+ level the individual is very limited. You will find that you need the guild. Treat the guild right and it will treat you right.

Give fellow guild members the first pop at items you have for sale. This doesn’t mean sell them to the guild for cheaper, it just means give the guild a chance first, if you don’t like the offers then go elsewhere. It is up to you how you relate in these matters. Don’t forget though, the stronger the guild is the stronger you are. We strive beyond all else to become and remain friends. Friends treat each other right if you have a disagreement voice it, talk about it, the last thing we want is to have factions within the guild.

Looting

TALK about it - nominate a person to track - if you want to take turns on what someone said was "free loot" say so, then the ones that don’t want free loot can stay out of it and those that want free loot can take turns with a different loot order. Looting is by alpha - if someone leaves or someone joins continue with the loot order as it was, whoever was next should still be next, start the loot order with him/her.

Knowledge

If you learn something, share it with the guild. We are striving to gain knowledge. Do not tell people where you got something unless you know the information is readily available on a web page. Read what our goal is, if you give away information you weaken the guild. There will be things this guild discovers that no one else knows if you tell others then places will get camped out and items will be impossible to get, or quests may become broken if too many people are doing them. Go ahead and spread common knowledge to newbies, but if someone asks you where you got that special item tell em what you want just not where you got it. I am serious about this!!! Take a look at what they have done to pottery, it was a great moneymaker till the whole world learned about it then they broke it. Think about all those items no one knew about and how now you can't get them for yourself cause they are all camped out.

Later when we own the server, then we can start exchanging knowledge with other guilds,

"I'll tell you who drops this if you tell me who drops that".

If you join this guild you are making a commitment to its members, leave the guild if you

don't understand this.

OUR ROLE IN EVERYDAY NORRATH LIFE

In following with our stated goal to achieve a leadership position across the land we have developed the following social standards. These standards will apply to all guild members equally. Membership in a guild requires one to redefine their role in Norrath from an individual to a part of something greater. Failure to aspire to these standards will be dealt with by guild officers.

We are not about removed self-interest. We have goals yes, but we recognize that others at times find themselves in need of assistance. We will be known as a guild that cares about others.

Norrath's people communicate in a limited fashion. As such misunderstandings always arise. Norrath is a hard land to flourish in, people invest innumerable amounts of time and energy into their advancement. At times individual goals and values clash, the simplest of misunderstandings become raging exchanges, which leave both sides soured. It is our belief that the majority of the time these confrontations can be avoided and turned into an opportunity to expand our reputation as a mature guild.

The majority of the time situations can be resolved peacefully if you tell yourself the people you are dealing with are not bad people and they are just as limited as you in the means of communication. Talk things out.

Kill Stealing

Kill stealing is not acceptable under any circumstances. A definition of kill stealing is required: Kill stealing is the act of purposely killing a mob which another player or group of players had already engaged in combat for the express purpose of stealing either the loot or the experience gained from the kill. Kill stealing does happen by accident sometimes, and if so the guild member will be expected to render onto the other party the goods from the creature that was killed.

Others stealing from you: One kill steal is not to be a source of conflict. It may have been a mistake and therefore not worthy of involving the guild name in conflict, give them the benefit of the doubt. Talk to them ask them what happened, be careful how you word things, make sure it doesn’t sound like an accusation, or better yet say nothing. More than one steal kill should be noted - write the name down - we gather knowledge and that includes the names of idiots. But don't start a fight! Tell them The Seventh Circle now knows them by name and that their behavior will not be forgotten. Do not engage in verbal conflict! This is important, because even though you know the guy is an ass he may have friends to whom he behaves like a prince, if you let it drop quietly then we don’t have to worry that one ass wont turn others against us (we would have no chance to defend our actions).

Taking Turns

There are special circumstances, which arise in Norrath where more than one individual is waiting for a creature to appear, this should be dealt with as follows: Whoever got there first has the right to the next spawn. An agreement should be reached whereby turns are taken by the parties involved. All effort should be put into achieving this agreement. Should the other parties involved choose to ignore our pleas for an agreement, we leave it up to our guild members to decide how to handle the situation - this is not a good thing no one wins in these situations, do not enjoy having to race for the kill, do it with determination and keep quiet if you win - The Seventh Circle is not about rubbing things in people's noses.

Finally there are some places where more than two groups are waiting for a kill - if you determine that there is no order and no order can be achieved (it is understandable if you don't wish to wait for every third spawn) it is acceptable to throw your damage in. Sometimes these things can't be avoided, BUT understand and believe that doing so was not a good thing, it was a necessary thing.

There is another exception to the rule for taking turns. There are times when guild members will find themselves in places where no experience can be gathered (i.e. you are gods to the place). You are there because you want a specific item off a specific mob. The Seventh Circle believes that one who has labored hard for advancement is due his rewards. If you find yourself competing with low-level types for an item in a place where you get no XP, AND YOU WERE THERE FIRST you are within your rights to take the kill and continue to do so until you get what you came for. If you arrived and found others already camping then treat it like any other situation, do not kill steal.

Remember to achieve our goals we want to count as many people in Norrath as our friends do.

Strive for that.

ONE FINAL NOTE

I don’t think anyone in EQ would argue the statement that misunderstandings arise in this game quite frequently. First and foremost as a guild we do not wish to make enemies. We will come across those that insist on taking up the role of enemy with us, that can't be helped. But it is a great loss to make someone an enemy that could have been an ally in the future. The author is guilty of making enemies where friendship could have resulted, I think we all are. And as long as we recognize the loss associated with it there is

hope. I would like to offer up the following GUIDELINES to consider when dealing with others:

ONE KILL STEAL DOES NOT A KILL STEALER MAKE

- covered above

IF THERE IS A CHANCE THAT A MISUNDERSTANDING TOOK PLACE THEN IT DID

- If someone just did something that really pissed you off then maybe it was because they didn't know what was going on. If we assume that is the case whenever anyone pisses us off then we will have the right mindset to follow the guideline below.

ON INITIAL CONTACT WITH A POTENTIAL JERK GATHER INFORMATION FIRST, THEN JUDGE

- it is so easy for us to start a conversation with accusations and preconceived notions, don’t. Ask questions, maybe the guy is an ass, but it wont hurt to verify that before you make an enemy.

KILL THEM WITH KINDNESS

- I had a guy start calling me an asshole and railing me because he misunderstood what I said, I explained to him that I never seek to upset anyone and apologized if what I said in any way upset him - next thing I knew I made a friend. 8)

HAVE FUN AND LET OTHERS HAVE FUN AROUND YOU

- Respect role-players, don't belittle people or make them feel stupid it has no benefit and serves the guild no purpose. Okay, the guy in the other party next to you just did and emote that was totally gay, leave him alone, so what let him play the damn game.

HEARSAY IS BULLSHIT

- Do not, I repeat, DO NOT go by what other people say, unless you saw it too. If we agree that misunderstandings occur, then why buy into what someone else may have misunderstood? "That guy is a kill stealer" how the hell do I know that, I didn’t see it. Consider the source, maybe the person relating that information to you tends to have a hot head and jumps to conclusions, then again if the source is a level headed individual that you know doesn't accuse people of being kill stealer off the cuff, well then maybe they know what they are saying. Just remember that misunderstandings happen.

RESPECT NEWBIES

- You were a newbie once yourself, it is understood that you don’t have time to answer questions but don't make them feel stupid for asking.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY TO A SUCCESSFUL GUILD

- Questions need to be asked to the guildleader and/or officers. If you are confused or upset about a situation, please take it to an officer or guildleader, that is what we are here for, let us do our jobs. Remember that this above all is a game, the ultimate objective is to have FUN.
